Introduction to Hand in Hand Investment Forum (IF) 2023

The Investment Forum 2023, the crux of the Initiative's partnership-building effort, provides a platform for national authorities to present investment opportunities to investors, multilateral development banks, the private sector and donors, with a focus on investment potential on national agriculture and food value chain investment opportunities.

For countries, long-term finance in public investments is key for Hand-in-Hand's success. For multilateral development banks, their blended finance structures and risk-mitigating mechanisms can support private investors in the poorest, fragile countries, and help enhance their roles in participating countries. For investors, direct presentation of investment cases will enable them to directly engage with countries on investment opportunities.

After the successful first-ever Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum in 2022, the second and more extensive edition of the Investment Forum will take place from 17 to 20 October 2023 in Rome, Italy, with the presence of  31 countries.

Prospective investors will also have an opportunity to learn about special regional initiatives and related investment opportunities.

During the four-day event, Ministers and representatives from the participating countries will have the opportunity to present their country prioritized investment plans and detail opportunities in those areas where the Hand-in-Hand Initiative supports the Government to reduce poverty and hunger.

Bilateral meetings can also be arranged between Ministers and senior officials of each participating country with potential development partners at any time especially during the event and afterwards.

Two regional Initiatives will also be presented: Dry Corridor and Sahel.

In this second edition of the Investment Forum, four roundtables have been included in the programme, including a roundtable with Managing Directors and high-ranking officers of International Financial Institutions, another with Chief Executive Officers from global agrifood firms, a third with global Foundations and a fourth with representatives of Traditional donors.

Regional Initiative of the Dry Corridor

Tuesday, 17 October

The Central American Dry Corridor is a geographical area 1,600 kilometers long and 100-400 kilometers wide, covering 44% of the surface of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, where 11.5 million people live in rural municipalities and more than half work in agriculture.

The region and its agriculture are vulnerable to risks associated with climate change (long periods of drought, followed by intense rains), which has caused a significant economic impact and threatened food security.
